Breakdown Session 1 of Training Camp

by Emily Roberts | Apr 23, 2013

The Family Place hosted the first of four educational Training Camp sessions on April 18, 20133. Twenty-five men attended and received training on the impact of domestic violence presented by Lt. Miguel Sarmiento from the Dallas Police Department. The attendees also heard from Patty Bryan, a survivor of  domestic violence, who shared her story of how violence affected her life and how she was able to persevere through her many struggles as a victim. Orenthal McRea, who was ordered to attend a Battering Intervention Program and successfully completed the program in 2012, encouraged the attendees to become involved in the fight against abuse.

The Next Step Training Camp is a free, four-part educational series that will provide menthe opportunity to become involved in helping end domestic violence in the Dallas area.

The goal of the Training Camp is to train men on how domestic violence impacts the community; how to safely intervene when you see abuse happening; how to become a mentor for young boys; and how to team up with other community organizations to help end violence in the Dallas area.

Stay tuned for Session 2!
